Dear Parents/Guardians:

I'm delighted to welcome you to the beginning of another exciting school year at the West Oak Lane Charter School (WOLCS). As we begin the 2016-2017 school year we remain committed to our pursuit of academic excellence and our journey from good to great. To the families of our returning students, I want to express on behalf of the entire WOLCS staff that we look forward to seeing you again in just a few weeks. To the families of our incoming kindergarten students and new elementary students we look forward to welcoming you into the WOLCS family.

All students must come to school each day, including the last day of school, neatly groomed and dressed in the WOLCS uniform.  Please do not send students to school with hair partially braided or unkempt.  The uniform must be clean and worn neatly.

The 2017-2018 Enrollment and Re-Enrollment Period is now open.....please visit our enrollment page for more information and to access the links to submit your application for new enrollment or to re-enroll your WOLCS student for the coming year.

This Student vs. Parent Basketball Games are designed to provide WOLCS families with a chance to spend time together. We will be holding two events, 4-5th Grades on March 21st, & 6th-8th Grades on March 23rd, both events at 6:00PM. As many of you know the summer provides a much needed break from the rigors of school. However, research suggests that students can lose many of the skills acquired during the school year over the summer break if they do not continue to work on mastering these skills. In order to support continued learning and reduce summer learning loss, the literacy and math departments have provided assignments in both of these areas. For literacy students will continue to log steps for the 100 book challenge, complete a project related to one book, and write a summary of that book. For math, students will create a math dictionary to serve as a resource throughout the 2016-2017 school year. ***Both of these assignments are due the first week of school and will count of a grade.*** All children received a packet at the end of the school year with complete directions, if you are missing the packet it is available via the link below.

WOLCS is working to renew parent and family engagement efforts by energizing the Families Being Involved (FBI) parent organization. In the 2016-2017 school year we want to increase the FBI membership and get parents working directly with us in planning events and activities that celebrate student learning and achievement. We want to enhance school-home communications and also share with parents and guardians strategies they can adopt to support their children’s success in school.
